clinical pilates
Clinical Pilates is a system of exercises focused on improving core stabilisation which can increase spinal and abdominal muscle efficiency and is the basis for stability of the spine. Clinical pilates can offer some of the following benefits:
•increased spinal and abdominal muscular control, flexibility, co-ordination and strength
•improved posture and stabilisation of the spine
•aiding in the prevention of injuries related to poor spinal control
•offering a safe and effective injury rehabilitation program
•enhanced balance
Clinical Pilates requires supervision by a qualified practitioner. Your osteopath will need to complete a full assessment before you can begin your program which will be specifically tailored to your body’s requirements. Strict supervision is necessary to ensure correct technique so you will achieve the full benefit of your program.
As you progress, your osteopath will modify your exercise program to make sure you continue to challenge your body. Exercises which were once challenging will become much easier as your body becomes more conditioned.
Sessions will initially be one on one, but as you become more proficient, you may be able to progress to a group session which will be supervised by a qualified practitioner or instructor. Regular reviews are a common part of any pilates program as are home exercises enabling you to continue your training and conditioning away from the clinic environment.
Pilates is suitable for everyone, including sports people, teenagers, pre and post pregnancy, office workers, people with physically demanding jobs and retirees of any age.
